It’s The Little Things That Help

Aging isn’t a sudden process. It is something that will gradually creep up on everyone. Things you used to do without effort or thought start to get a little bit fiddlier.

You find it more difficult to pick up small items like coins. When you go to open a tin can you grab your can opener and now it takes you a few attempts to latch it on and then the turning of the handle takes longer and longer and requires more and more effort.

Reading starts to become more problematic as our eyes too start to slow down. They need more time to adjust and more light to see as well as they used to.

Loss of hearing is also a common difficulty. The loss can be so slow developing that it’s only when you stop noticing the phone ringing that you realise that you’ve got a bit of a problem.

The best way to cope with these things is to acknowledge they are happening. That way you can do something about it.

If you find using a can opener means you always spill things and it make your hands ache then get an electric can opener that will make your life easier.

Go out get and get some lighting that is more suitable to your needs. Just changing your bulbs to daylight spectrum ones can make a huge impact on your ability to see print on paper while you read.

If you keep missing the sound of your phone ringing then opt of one the phones for the hard of hearing that are available. They have much louder ring tones along with the ability to amplify the voice of the person phoning you.

By assessing what you do regularly and what things are causing you problems you can often change to items or products that will suit you better. Whether you go for Amplicom phones or a talking watch, you’ll find something suitable for you.

So just because you are getting older it doesn’t mean you have stop or avoid doing everyday activities.
